25/365 Day Two - Email from new e-buddies

We will be collaborating with students from Glascote Heath Primary School soon, they are our new ebuddies. Looking forward to a new partnership, they sound excited as well!

24/365 Taking photos all day!

First day back at school and I was taking photos all day long! Incredible to think that this is such a monumental day for the Prep children, the first day of twelve years of compulsory schooling! This photo is of the bob cat working on the soil outside our new hall. The childrens eyes were glued to it as it moved backwards and forwards smoothing the surface.

23/365 The day before...

A joint family effort
I wanted a poster to let parents know what items we need them to find and bring in to school.  My teaching partner has a wishing tree on her window so I have tried to make mine a little different. I found clipart for the tree on the Teachers Pet site, the clouds from and the flowers were found by searching 'clipart flowers' and were a screen capture from a blog.

22/365 Windscreen repaired

21/365 I want to come back as a cat.

"Goodbye, have a nice day, now go!"

20/365 Potential for greatness

So tidy! I'll post the same pic after first day at school!

19/365 Another cracked windscreen

I don't drive behind trucks, but it got me anyway.

18/365 Happy Anniversary

My husband and I were married on my mother's birthday, we used to joke and say it was so we wouldn't forget but in fact that is exactly what happened this year AND it was our 25th!  We celebrated at the Thai Inn at Springwood, always a beautiful meal.

17/365 Clean slate

I popped in to school to collect the keys for my new classroom and put some posters up so the walls aren't bare when we start back next Monday. There is a lot of window space and the walls have whiteboards on carpet covering. I will have to consider how best to display art work, word walls etc. The walls are pushed out of the way to encourage the two classes to work together.

16/365 Timelapser app

Tinkered a little with the Timelapser app on my iphone.  Took 20 or 30 photos and then it creates the movie. It is as simple as that!  The setting for the first one of the cats was too fast, 10 photos per second, the one of my husband is 5 frames per second.

This only lasts for 1 second!

14 & 15 /365

I've been working on my final MEd assignment, so the past couple of days have been spent with my nose in books and reading ejournals.

13/365 The sun is shining

It seems truly bizarre that whilst thousands of people are struggling to cope with the aftermath of the floods that life continues to move on as normal for those of us not in the firing line.  We have had the television on all day again, listening and watching the updates.  Our dog, however, was out in the back yard rummaging around in the leaves, keeping an eye out for visitors - or at the very least humans walking past our driveway that she could bark at!

Waiting patiently for something to bark at!

12/365 Paul returns to base

Our son was determined to return home today so he could resume work at Garden Point after the Christmas holiday.  He did have to make two attempts at it though, first time he got as far as Balina and had to turn around when he realised that Grafton was blocked and so was the alternative route through Goondiwindi.  He made it away this evening, flying Qantas for about $125.  Still waiting for him to let me know he is home though!

Toodooloo son!

Guaranteed departure this time!

11/365 Worst flood in 35 years

This is the one of the first images I saw this morning of the terrible havoc wreaked on Toowoomba
Toowoomba flood 2011
This is not my photo, it was shared by on Twitter this morning.
It is here to let my global friends see how awful this disaster is - Toowoomba is a university city 127 km west of Brisbane

Courier Mail report:

More photos shared on Twitpic of the torrential rain and catastrophic results for Brisbane:

We went shopping today, closest we got to getting wet thank goodness.
Bargain! 2 x hot drinks + 2 x scones.

My hero collecting me and the shopping

10/365 TBones for tea

Paul is going back to base tomorrow and we always have a special send off meal.  This time it was a big T-bone very nicely cooked on the BBQ outside in the carport with the rain as a back drop.

He is insisting on driving back to Sydney so fingers crossed he doesn't hit any road blocks with all of this rain.

9/365 Still trying to make Mac and fonts play nicely

I am nothing if not committed.  I want to be able to use the QCursive and Beginner fonts that are available on our 'Computer for Teachers' laptops, I prefer working on my Mac.  However, the machine is determined not to accept that I am in charge.

So near and yet so far. I can see it but I can't apply it in programs.

8/365 Cross platforms!

Today I have been battling operating systems, the Mac didn't want to view the file created on a PC, the PC didn't want to talk to the printer, the printer didn't want to print out what was displaying in the print view... the list goes on.

The machinery didn't beat me though, with some help from @kf70 I managed to work around them, et voila I now have a pile of beautifully crafted name strips with the names of each of my students ready for day 1!

Taken using PhotoBooth 'Light tunnel' effect.

6/365 Testing, testing, 123

Looking for a momentary distraction. Revisiting Posterous after a long absence. @jnxyz believes this platform is the blogging and media sharing tool for the future so I'm checking out what is possible.
Uploading a screen shot of my new folder icons to see how the images transfer to flickr. Assuming I have to add tags and titles over there.

Nicely transferred, but it is not the 5th of January now, it is the 6th! Will have to find the time settings for this blog.

5/365 5th January 2011

I have one more assignment to submit in order to complete the MEd (Technology) that I have been working towards since semester 2, 2007. I have been looking into opportunities that this qualification might open for me. Today I had a chat with a colleague who suggested I could take the next academic step - Education Doctorate. I will submit an expression of interest and share what unfolds. This is the Arts and Education building at Griffith University on the Gold Coast where I could be enrolled.

4/365 4th January 2011

The last piece of Christmas cake for the year! Popped around to have a cup of tea with Mum and Dad after a trip out to Coles for supplies. Mum takes so much care with the presentation, paper napkins, everyone had a Royal Worcester mug and a white plate on the Christmas table cloth. Happy New Year viewer!

3/365 3rd January 2011

The grass and weeds have taken over our back yard. Ian had an accident at work that stopped him from getting out into the garden to work and there has been so much rain that some of the stalks are waist high! Today my men folk worked together to replace the blades and then attacked the forest that has sprouted during the weeks over Christmas.

1/365 1st and 2nd January 2011

The first photo is the Christmas pudding being lit before eating with Mum and Dad to complete the first meal of the year that we shared with them. The second is of my kids commenting unenthusiastically about me taking photos again.
(taken with my iphone)

Already into the new year and I am late beginning this photo collage. I had a look at the previous one, Mrs_Banjer's EdTech 365/2010, and believe that I did a bit better than the year before that. I actually remembered to return and upload photos every so often.

The lessons I have learned about this task:

1. Do not link to photos in flickr, if you let your pro account lapse the images are not displayed which is a pain. When I paid the subscription some of the images remained unavailable.

2. Remember to resize images or adjust the camera settings so it doesn't eat into internet quota.

3. Be realistic, I am usually pretty consistent through the holidays but during term time work and study take over. Even though it is a pretty good distraction and useful for procrastination the most attention is paid during the holiday periods.

That said, I am going to upload a couple of photos I have taken with my birthday present below, a new camera bought in the sales at Robina with my ebuddy @jeni_wren.

My husband and I went for a drive yesterday to get out of the house. I wanted to try the panorama feature of my camera out and the results are pretty good I think! Love the display quality when I click on the image. These are taken at West End and then at South Bank, Brisbane.
